“Chromatography, GC-MS, LC-MS as Instruments in Metabolomics”

  This course will describe chromatography as a core method in metabolomics research. The basics of liquid and gas chromatography, historical aspects of appearance, classification. Structure and principles of operation of gas and liquid chromatographs. Variety of sample introduction systems and detectors, two-dimensional chromatography. History of metabolomics. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry hybrid technique in metabolomics. HPLC and its use in metabolomics.
  The working principle of MSD, its structure, varieties. Ionization sources, types of mass filters, MSD operating modes. Metabolomics workflow. Sample preparation for metabolic analysis. Basic principles of analysis of metabolomics data. Use of chromatography and mass spectrometry for study of marine microorganisms. This course will be included in the curriculum.
