The course describes the fundamental knowledge and mechanisms underlying immune responses in cancer and currently available immunotherapy strategies. Through the lectures will be highlighted cancer biology and its hallmarks, the tumor microenvironment, immune recognition and mechanisms of immune response, immunological surveillance and cancer immune evasion. In addition, the mechanisms of checkpoint blockade and the response of different tumor types on checkpoint inhibitor treatment as well as CAR T cell and other novel strategies of immunotherapy will be discussed.
